Reading the Qur’aan in Ramadhaan – How the Salaf divided the portions for reading
There are 29 or 30 days in a lunar month. This table can help you divide your time to ensure you read the whole Qur’aan within the month of Ramadhaan or any month.
The printed mushaf today is divided into 30 equal parts to ease the reading of one part each day. In the past the Salaf did not have this division but instead relied upon reading full suwar (plural of surah). So it is better to read a whole surah like the salaf did in order not to break off in the middle of a topic. This issue is mentioned by Shaykhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah in ‘Majmoo’ al Fataawa’ vol. 13 p405-416.
